    The Director of Data Science at AbleTo will bring significant healthcare data analytics experience to optimize patient identification and stratification, treatment and revolutionizing member engagement with AbleTo.  The Director will provide the technical leadership and mentorship for the Data Science team, ensuring sound methodologies and best practices are employed by the team to develop and improve patient targeting, engagement, and treatment models and analyses.  They will also partner with department owners to identify and prioritize opportunities to inject analytics and use of data to improve performance. The Director will also stay in tune with technology advancements in Big Data and Machine Learning tools, and will provide guidance for the company’s continued improvements in Data Science technologies.  This role will significantly contribute to the company’s growth in the critical core competency of Data Science.

    Responsibilities

    Technical Leadership

    • Bring healthcare analytics leadership to drive engagement and treatment outcomes in various populations such as commercially insured, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, etc.
      • Lead data analytics - including patient targeting, consumer segmentation, engagement optimization - to maximize patient access to AbleTo programs
      • Lead team approach to injecting machine learning and other analytical tools into predictive modeling outcomes and engagement
      • Drive operational efficiencies and influence product development to implement data-driven features
      • Proactively identify new ways to use data or ways to augment data to improve effectiveness and efficiency
      • Identify and integrate other data sources to improve models
    • Serve as a thought leader to the Data Science team in building new analyses, troubleshoot coding issues, and developing analytical approaches that drive significant business value
    • Implement best practices in data management, quality control processes, and maintaining code/documentation repositories

     

    Stakeholder Management

    • Prioritize and communicate Data Science projects based on Company objectives across multiple stakeholders
    • Own, present and explain findings to various stakeholders across the company, and developing the team to do so as well
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with our Research team, Engagement team, Clinical team,  Product teams to optimize our use of data and analytics to develop business insights
    • Other projects, as needed and assigned

     

    Team Development

    • Lead the transition to a scalable Data Science team in partnership with the SVP Technology to develop a Data Engineering & Data Operations partner team
    • Provide leadership and professional guidance to the Data Science team member with focus on technical development of team members  
    • Drive the continuous improvement of team’s capabilities & tools
    • Ensure the transmission and sufficiency of the team’s technical knowledge by mentoring new members of the team

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience:

    • BS & Masters Degrees in advanced statistics, informatics, or math field
    • 5+ years of professional experience in healthcare analytics
    • 3+ years in machine learning (predictive modeling) and analytics
    • Experience in Healthcare industry required (Payer claims data, health outcomes)

     

    Required Competencies:

    • Experience advanced analytics, predictive modeling, machine learning
    • Proficient in Python, R and other statistical modeling packages
    • Developing and validating predictive models
    • Experience with SQL and relevant coding languages
    • Experience presenting complex technical issues to non technical audiences

     

    Preferred Competencies

    • Proficiency in SAS and Data Visualization Software
    • Experience with episode groupers, risk scoring models, social determinants of health, etc.
